Abraham & Isaac foreshadow Perfect Love, the Father & Son

Date: March 31, 2025

Context: No day given, March 2025.

Abraham and Isaac represent the union of the Father and His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ (Gen. 22:2). They walk together (22:6,8). They are one. Abraham represents the Heart of Abba Father, who loves his Son (22:2) and is willing to sacrifice his Son because he is Love and loves us. Abraham reveals the heart of a father who would rather sacrifice himself than his son, Isaac. His obedience to sacrifice Isaac, as the “burnt offering,” reveals his perfect love and foreshadows the new covenant, when the Father will sacrifice his Son, Jesus Christ. In this act of the perfect love of the Father is revealed that He is one sacrifice with His only begotten Son, solely for love.

Abraham and Isaac foreshadow, give us this beautiful image of Jesus’s perfect obedience to the Father’s Will, when Abraham speaks the words to God, “Here am I” (22:1,11), and also, when Isaac asks him, “Where is the lamb for a burnt offering? (22:7) and Abraham answers, “God will provide,” thus painting the perfect image of perfect love through surrender and trust.

Abraham and Isaac walk “together” as the Father and the Son walk together in perfect harmony and love. Isaac doesn’t fight with his father; he doesn’t resist his father as he is placed on the wood of sacrifice. Isaac is totally docile, surrendered to his father, and perfectly obedient. He lives in his father’s love; he knows how much his father loves him. This foreshadows the perfect Lamb of God who is “obedient unto the wood of the cross,” for he is one with his Father. Jesus reveals, as does Isaac, filial love.

The Father said, Do not lay your hand on the lad or do anything to him; for now I know that you fear God, seeing you have not withheld your son, your only son, from me. (22:12)
