In the Gospel of John 16:5–9, Jesus penetrates the Apostle’s sorrow, which has become a barrier to seeing the glory of God working through Jesus’ coming death. Jesus says:
But now I am going to him who sent me; yet none of you asks me, ‘Where are you going?’ 6 But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your hearts. 7 Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. 8 And when he comes, he will prove the world wrong about sin and righteousness and judgment.
The Lord insists on telling His followers where He is going because this knowledge will perfect their faith, hope, and love. It will bring them joy and peace amid the persecution that they, too, will have to endure for the Kingdom of God. He reveals the new Jerusalem. The Lord has also been diligent from the beginning of The Path in telling us of His desire, through the power of the Holy Spirit, for union with the Most Holy Trinity through the Cross, Jesus crucified, here on earth!
Jesus explains to them the work of the Holy Spirit (Jn 16:8–9). Again, the Lord is confirming for us the work of His Simple Path to Union with God, for this path convicts us of our sins and disorders through the gift of the Holy Spirit of self-knowledge. He convicts us of righteousness—Jesus Christ—and leads us deep within our hearts to know Him and love Him as He has loved us, through the grace of suffering our pure pain as one with Him. The Path brings us to see the darkness and evil within each of us and blesses us with the gift of the Spirit of repentance. The Lord speaks to us, through The Path, of judgment and hell. He explains that many souls go to hell or are in danger of hell and forms us as His victims of love to save souls as one with Him. Therefore, the work of the Holy Spirit is active and manifests itself from the beginning of The Path to the end!
